A little more about us. . .
In 2000 a group of horse-lovin' folks got together to form a new organization to fill a void that had arisen as a result of the class-specific specialization of western-style horses. These folks had fond memories of the days when a good horse was one that could do everything and look good while at it. After researching other like-minded associations the Iowa Ranch Horse Association was launched by this group of dedicated folks.
The goal was to provide a competition that would simulate what a horse might perform on a ranch, moving and working cattle, navigating gates and dragging things, and also show the horse/rider connection by performing a simple reining pattern. A horse that is a pleasure to lope out to check cattle and is pleasing to the eye. The IRHA is western but not breed specific. Good solid working gear for both rider and horse is the only dress and tack requirement, so long as they are in keeping with the minimal tack rules.
The IRHA welcomes all levels of exhibitors and offers Open, Amateur, Novice, Sr./Jr.Youth and Walk/Trot Divisions. The Board strives to be inclusive to all and to keep the cost of entry fees and cattles charges as minimal as possible to open the door to a diverse group of folks. It is family friendly and many life-time friendships have been fostered through the IRHA. A commitment to the future of the IRHA is fostered by yearly youth clinics and scholarships for high school graduate members.
